Modern Living

Client Regan was looking to update her living and dining Space in her Condo. Regan’s design style is modern and Fray Interiors wanted to give a modern spin  with feminine touches added. The balance was achieved through the accessories throughout the room including the mercury glass lamps and accents. The room also keeps its true modern aesthetic by the mixture of the dark wood entertainment center, buffet, coffee table juxtaposed  the glass dining table and chrome end table.

Prior to the start of the project, Reagan expressed that she wanted a place she could entertain and also comfortable area to work in since she works from home often. A comfortable sofa and chair with clean modern lines now allows plenty of seating for guests and the homeowner. Regan now has a space she can enjoy and reflects her style.

My friend Mabel changed her Christmas decor this year to a pretty combination of greens and teal. We spoke of how the peacock feathers  were a great accent to this color combination. To accompany her Christmas decor, I was able to create the peacock wreath by adding  a few items to a dark green feathered wreath from the craft store.

This Master Bedroom has seen 3 major transformations over the years. The transformation has been made every 4 yrs. It started  from 8 years ago then 4 years ago and  today. The initial style  was Shabby Chic then it grew to Romantic /Shabby Chic /French Country. Now the bedroom reflects a French feel along with some modern updates. The cost of the 3rd renovation was less than $1,000. New Duvet set: $25 at Target, 2 Area Rugs-Target on sale for $230 each. Wardrobe-Ikea-$300 (added toile wallpaper-$60 to cover glass). 2 Large Chocolate brown pillows on clearance $12.50 each at Target. A bedroom update does not need to cost a lot. An expensive flea market find or an item on sale for the bedroom can be the inspiration to make small design changes which give a big impact on the space.

Fall for Dinner

This is a great time of year to add that special touch to your table decor. This doesn’t have to be pricey. Stores like Marshall and Target have great fall decor that is easy to add to your able. A great tip is to get items of varied sizes. Don’t be afraid to go Big!

Today, I taught my first design class at Boscov’s in Moorestown NJ. It’s part of Boscov’s Campus of Courses that is offered to the public. It was great to share my budget design tips. The students were great and I look forward to next 3 classes.

Tips for staging your home:

It’s ok to slip..

Slip covers are a great way to make a piece of furniture look “brand new”. The living room wingback chairs were originally tan with several stains. It would be expensive to reupholster the chairs. Fitted slip covers in a rich red color to match the other items in the room gave the chairs a whole new look. The homeowner’s fiancé thought the chairs were new.

Be Neutral

Try painting walls in a neutral color. This way the potential homeowners can visualize their furniture in the space.

De Clutter De Clutter

Take out items that aren’t in use. Toss things that aren’t in good condition and give items that are still good to use to a charity that accepts furniture and clothes. They will appreciate the donation. If it looks like you don’t have enough room for your things, the potential homeowner will think they won’t have enough room for their things.

Stage Specific

When staging to your home, don’t be design specific. Have your spaces be appealing to all design types. A good rule is to remove any personal photos and taste specific artwork.

Less is more…

No need to have every piece of wall with artwork and accessories. Little hints here and there give the spaces a light and airy touch.

Think Ahead

If you already purchased a new property, You can use the art work or accessories you have purchased to stage the home to be used in the new space.

This loft space was turned into a nursery very easily by finishing the walls to the ceiling and adding a window to bring in light. The back of the bookcases also were painted a neutral color to accent the new nursery items. The nursery theme is safari with items to showcase a well traveled look.
